Render Study...
Monday, 4 February 2013
Hello 2013, its been a while.
Hello there peoples!
I have clearly been on a hiatus from the blogosphere for a few months. Why you ask? Well, back in late October my wife and I were preparing to leave Canada and return home to Australia. Then, turning everything upside down, I managed to land a position as a Junior Concept Artist at DeNA Studios Canada. Very exciting!
So I have been working solidly there learning lots about the production and polishing of images for the game that we are working on. We will be releasing the game within the next few days which is also quite exciting so I will do my best to post a link to where you can get that from, especially if you have an android device to begin with.
Anyway, I have decided that I still want to push my skills while learning other things. So this morning I did a quick 5 minute warm up of the skull above. I have been doing a few skulls for the game I am working on so it seemed fitting. Its not anatomically correct but I wasnt really going for that. Then at lunch I decided to render up the skull using a photo of a real skull for reference purposes.
I will do my best to keep doing practice sketches and posting them here!
If your actual skull looks like this... you should see someone about it. Especially because you shouldn't be able to see your skull.
Happy 2013

General Gond Sprigg Longtooth
Many goblin wars have been started over that cocked (yes i said it) hat. Goblins after all are silly creatures and will look for any excuse with which to fight.
General Longtooth, a veteran of many campaigns, outlived many of his predecessors. However upon procuring the famed cocked hat was assassinated during the sitting for the portrait.
The hat and its curse live on, but the goblins haven't quite figured out that if you possess the hat then you'll most likely wind up dead.
------
2nd in my series of Goblin Generals. Will have to see about painting a third. This was a good challenge for painting for me. More hair studies, and my goodness are feathers hard to paint or what? Fabric and metals and skin, oh my! Learning lots and having a ball all the way!
Cheers!

Midnight Raid- Color
Man, why is coming up with a blog or pic title always so difficult??!
It took me some time to get the colors working for me on this one... probably still needs a fair bit of work done to it but I like the direction so far...

You've made her angry...
That is one gutsy hunter... She does not look happy...
Another piece that is just about ready for a colour pass. Spent most of the time tonight trying to fix up the anatomy of the legs on the dragon/dinosaur thingy... Still not sure if its 100% but i think we're gettin close! :D

I started this a little while back with the mentorship with Jake and after all the critiques I have finished with this. Pretty happy with how this is turning out and I have been learning a whole lot.
Next step.... Colour!
Comments and Crits welcome, and for those who didnt realise, you can click on the image to get the larger view.
Stay tuned for the other pieces to be finished too!

Wierdwood Library
Luke Minaker asked me to help design a crazy fantasy library design for his project and this is how it ended up. I painted this over a basic 3D plate. There are still somethings wrong with it but overall I'm happy with it. I may end up coloring it at some stage.
